CARNEY, William Anderson - William A. Carney, more than 40 years a resident of Bentonville, died at his home in the west part of town last Friday night. Mr. Carney had been dangerously ill for a week. Funeral services were held at the home Saturday afternoon with the Rev. Clarence Cockrum having charge. The order of Odd Fellows performed their short rituals at the grave and interment was made in the City Cemetery. He is survived by five children, all who were with him at the time of his death. His daughters are: Mrs. Mary Lynn, living in the Marrs' Hill community west of town, Mrs. S.D. Woods of Sulphur Springs and Miss Blanche Carney at the home address. His sons are Will Carney of Kansas City and Bert Carney of Oklahoma City. William Anderson Carney, a native of Illinois, was born in Sullivan county, Ill. June 16, 1848. Spending his youth in Illinois he then went to Indiana and in 1872 he married Miss Sarah A. Gong at Crawfordsville, Ind. He came to Bentonville in the spring of 1884. Mr. Carney followed the trade of carpentry and has lived in Bentonville continuously for 43 years.
