OAK GROVE CEMETERY COLUMBARIUM
REGULATIONS
The Oak Grove Cemetery Columbarium is a public columbarium managed by a seven-member Board of Directors (“Board”) appointed by the City Council for the City of Conway, Arkansas. The Columbarium provides a final resting place for cremated human remains (“cremains”). These regulations have been adopted, and will be followed, in order to maintain the peace, dignity, and beauty of the Columbarium.
1) A columbarium site is 14” X 14”. Each site shall contain no more than one cremains and is for human cremains only. Any other use of a site is prohibited.
2) Prior to the placement of cremains, the Board shall be notified of the deceased’s identity and must approve placement of the cremains. The Board reserves the right to insist upon proof that the deceased’s representative has the right to place cremains in a site. An Internment Order must be completed by a representative of the deceased and returned to a Board representative or mailed to the Board at its mailing address.
3) Cremains shall be placed in a sealed urn or other sealed container suitable for underground burial and shall be buried at a minimum depth of two feet. The burial of cremains is the responsibility of the deceased’s representative and shall be performed in one of the following ways: a) by making arrangements with a funeral home; b) by contracting with a Board-approved, professional grave preparer; or c) by a deceased’s family member or personal representative opening the site, placing cremains in the site, and closing it appropriately. All costs shall be bore by the deceased’s representative, and the Board is not responsible for any damage caused by the placement of cremains. Any damage caused to other sites during placement of cremains shall be paid by the deceased’s representative.
Once cremains are placed in a site, the site shall not be re-opened, save a court order or Board approval. If it becomes necessary to re-open a site, the re-opening and re-closing of the site shall be completed by an individual designated by the Board. The deceased’s representative shall pay all costs associated with re-opening and re-closing the site.
4) The Board will provide and place an engraved marker on each site as a part of the site purchase price. The shape and size of, and font size on, each marker shall be the same throughout the columbarium. No substitutions are allowed. Inscriptions on the marker shall consist of three lines that include a given name, a date of birth, and a date of death, up to a maximum of forty-five characters. Inscriptions must be performed by a monument company designated by the Board, and it is the responsibility of the deceased’s representative to make arrangements with the monument company for the inscriptions to be made. The correction of any inscription errors is the sole responsibility of the monument company and/or deceased’s representative.
5) No decorations or objects of any kind are allowed on or around a site. The Board retains the right to remove any decoration or object.
6) A site may be sold or transferred, but notice of the sale or transfer shall be given the Board.
7) The purchaser of the site agrees to all regulations, restrictions, and conditions promulgated by the Board. The regulations may be changed at any time by majority vote of the Board.
