Richard Clyde Hampton was born on January 21,1939 in Haynesville, LA, Claiborne Parish. He was the sixth of seven children born to the union of Urie and Ruby Hampton.

Richard better known to his family and friends as "Clyde" attended Goldstein Elementary School after relocating to Hot Springs, AR with his family in 1945. He began school at Langston Jr. High but later moved to Denver, CO where he attended Cole Jr. High and Manual High.

Clyde possessed an extraordinary athletic ability. He was an all-city selection in each of the three sports: football, basketball, and baseball. After graduating from Manual High in 1958, Clyde signed a professional baseball contract with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Richard was drafted into the United States Army to serve during the Cuban Crisis and Vietnam War, receiving an honorable discharge. Clyde later received formal training in carpentry, specializing in furniture.

He was very diligent worker and dedicated individual. In the early seventies, Clyde moved to California and began working at Prototools. In the early 80's, he moved to Hot Springs where he worked at Alliance Rubber Company, retiring after 21 years of service. Clyde was a steadfast caregiver to his mother, Ruby for over 40 years.

He was predeceased in death by his father, Urie Hampton, one brother, Alvin "BoBo" Hampton, three sisters, Sylvia Merriweather, Geneva Cowan, and Verna Dean Hadley, and his beloved mother, Ruby Lee Turner.

Memories will forever linger in the hearts of his daughters, Clydette (Scott) Booker of Denver CO, Richelle Hampton of Morrilton, AR, and Kari (Preston) Johnson of Hot Springs, AR; sisters, Debra (Marion) Hornocker of Ontario, CA and Bobbie Williams of Saginaw, MI; brother, Oscar Cowan; grandchildren, Orianna, Seth, Scott, Gabrielle and Everlee Rose; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, December 11, 2015 at Haven United Methodist Church with Rev. Chester Jones, officiating and Rev. Douglas A. Jones delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Guest registry is at htpp://www.carriganmemorial.com. Arrangements are entrusted to Carrigan Memorial Funeral Services.
