WESTVILLE, Okla. — James William (Bill) Galbraith, 85, of Westville, Okla., died Thursday, Sept. 24, 1992 in Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital. Born Sept. 9, 1907 in Concord, Tenn., the son of Charlie Martin and Rachel Ann (Winfrey) Galbraith, he was a World War II veteran and had served as deputy sheriff in Washington County for five years before moving to Westville, Okla. in 1942. He had served in the Westville Fire Department for several years and was past fire chief, mayor and councilman of Westville, He was a deacon of the First Baptist Church for over 40 years. On April 25, 1928 he married Mary Susan Seratte in Lincoln. She preceded him in death on June 16, 1983. He was also preceded in death by two daughters, Vera Kate Lynn and Shirley Marie Galbraith; three brothers, Floyd, Jack and Walter Galbraith; three sisters, Sanna Moorman, Winnie Eneks and Margaret (Seratte) Mapes; three half-sisters and a half-brother.

Survivors are a son, Dr. Charles R. Galbraith of Huntsville. Texas; five daughters, Anna Mae Watkins of Mounds, Okla., Wilma Sue Hardcastle of Westville, Okla., Velma Ruth Humphrey of Iuka, Miss., Elva Jean McCarter of Westville, Okla. and Mary Jane Doyle of Spokane, Wash.; two sisters. Madline Cox of Lincoln and Chrissie Jo Galbraith of Summers; 22 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and a host of friends and loved ones.

Funeral will be today, 2 p.m., at Hart Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Boyce Moon officiating. Burial will follow in White Rock Cemetery at Cane Hill under the direction of Hart Funeral Home of Westville, Okla. Pallbearers will be deacons of the First Baptist Church of Westville.

The family asks that memorials be sent to the Galbraith Scholarship Fund, c/o the Bank of Lincoln, Attn: Diane Moorman, Lincoln, Arkansas.
