Springdale - Hugh E. Douthit, 77, of Springdale, died Monday in the Springdale hospital. Born Feb. 14, 1899 in Lincoln, the son of George and Mary Fields Douthit, he was retired from the Detroit, Mich. police department.

Survivors are the widow, Mrs. Virginia Douthit of the home; three sons, Richard of Houston, Tex., Troy of Germany and Ronald of Fayetteville; three daughters, Mrs. Virginia White of Detroit, Mrs. June Jones of Columbus, Ga. and Mrs. Veta Chapman of St. Clair, Mich.; one brother, Bill of Siloam Springs; three sisters, Mrs. Avra Haddock of Colfax, Calif., Mrs. Fannie White of Watsonville, Calif., and Mrs. Annie Cummings of Modesto, Calif.; 21 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday of the Sequoyah Methodist Church with burial in White Rock Cemetery near Lincoln under direction of Sisco Funeral Chapel.

Springdale — Mrs. Virginia Etta Douthit, 74, of Columbus, Ga., died Tuesday at Columbus. Born Aug. 3, 1908, at Prairie Grove, the daughter of Charles A. and Hettie Neal Broughton, she was the widow of Hugh Douthit, a member of Sequoyah United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, a retired dietitian for the Orange County School Systems in Orlando, Fla. and lived in Columbus for the last two years.

Survivors are three sons, Richard Mabank of Texas, Chaplain Maj. Troy D. Douthit of the U.S. Army in Europe, and Ronald D. Douthit of Plano, Texas; three daughters. Mrs. Virginia Lee White of Las Vegas, Nev., Mrs. June E. Jones of Columbus, and Mrs. Veta Chapman of St. Clair, Mich.; two sisters, Mrs. Julia Cooper and Mrs. Violet Patrick, both of Springdale, 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at White Rock Cemetery near Dutch Mills under the direction of Sisco Chapel.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
