FAYETTEVILLE — John Graves Cochran, 82, of Fayetteville, died June 27, 2005, at his home. He was born Feb 14, 1923, at Del Rio, Texas, to Wiley M. and Yide Trimm Cochran.

He was raised in south Texas, and served as a Navy radioman on the USS John Land, making seven invasions during World War II. He attended the Dallas Institute of Vocal and Dramatic Arts as a music major after the war. He was also a licensed pilot, and an independent petroleum landman for many years, retiring in 1985. He was an accomplished pianist, and enjoyed flying, sailing, photography and woodworking.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn B. Cochran, to whom he was married in 1971; a son, Thomas Stephen Cochran of Corpus Christi, Texas; a daughter, Sandra Norrell of Arkansas Pass, Texas; three stepchildren, Meriwether Lewis Garing, David B. Garing, Katy Garing; a sister, Blythe Johnson of Canyon, Texas; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Fayetteville National Cemetery.
