Obituary
Zola Mae McClard Morphew, 86, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, passed away February 17, 2021. She was born June 2, 1934 in Union Parish, LA to Louie and Bessie Taylor. She was a member of Oaklawn Methodist Church in Hot Springs.

She grew up caring for her younger brothers and sister. This caring, motherly trait became her joy and way of life.

She and her first husband, Charles McClard, raised 8 children. She devoted herself to the everyday tasks of a large family and showing unconditional love for each of her children. Their home was occasionally overflowing with an extra child from family or friends here or there through the years, but always full of love and laughter. You could often find her in the kitchen; cooking, baking, or caning the vegetables from the always present large home garden. Other times she was behind the sewing machine making her girls matching outfits. As Charlie’s arthritis got worse, she would accompany him to job sites and became quite the expert at hanging wall paper. She even learned to change a flat on their car. She was a hardworking, determined, and occasionally tenacious (when it was needed) lady.

Later, as her family grew with grandchildren and, eventually, great-grandchildren her natural nurturing and caring extended and amplified through each generation. Each new baby found it’s own place in her heart forever. The brightest smiles were always present when she could visit with any of them.

She was lucky enough to find another soulmate later in life in Charles Morphew. He loved and cherished all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as his own. Zola and Charlie took to the road to camp and visit out of state family. When they were home they enjoyed their church and family.

Her happiest times were cooking and baking for family gatherings, making crafts, or fishing and hunting with her grandchildren. Her famous chicken and dumplings or banana bread were a staple at her house. She would almost always send you home with some too (usually in an old Cool Whip bowl). She loved long drives to see the countryside, especially when the leaves changed colors in the fall or trees and flowers started to bloom in the spring. She enjoyed life. Even when her body was crippled and weak, she gave it her all.

Zola was preceded in death by her parents; son, Terry Lynn McClard; first husband, Charles T. McClard; second husband, Charles R. Morphew; brothers, Billy Wayne Taylor, Jake Taylor, Jimmy Taylor, and Preston Taylor.

Survivors include sons, Buddy McClard (Mary), Louie McClard (Trish), Fred McClard (Cheryl), Gary McClard (Roz Speers); daughters, Charlene Rowell (Billy), Tresa Reed (Doug), Barbara Ward; brother, Clyde Taylor; sister, Linda Sue Hightower (Bob); seventeen grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home.
