FAYETTEVILLE — Melvin O. Stout, 74, of Fayetteville died Jan. 9, 2002, at Springdale. He was born Aug. 20, 1927, in Fayetteville, the son of W.H. Clinton and Pearly May Guist Stout. He was a security officer and was employed by Drake Field Airport as a chauffeur. He was a Pentecostal. He was a veteran of the Army and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ivalee Stout, in 1991; one son, John Otis Stout; one grandson, Anthony Justin Stout; one sister, Anna Mae Baker.

Survivors include his friend and longtime companion, Doris Williams of Fayetteville; five sons, Jerry M. Stout of Van Buren, Joseph L. Stout of Springdale, Bobby J. Stout of Springdale, Kenneth R. Stout of Fayetteville and James E. Stout of Elm Springs; one daughter, Marilyn L. Redfield of Maumelle; one brother, Hayden Stout of Fayetteville; one sister, Ethel Smith of Fayetteville; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at the chapel of Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Springdale with the Rev. Johnny Hassell officiating. Burial will be in National Cemetery at Fayetteville, with military honors conducted by the Northwest Arkansas Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be Phillip Stout, Andres Stout, Donald Smith, Jason Stout, Larry Stout, Jeff Edwards and Jennifer Stout.

Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Stout, Jeremy Stout and Christopher Brockett.

Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, with the family receiving friends from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
