George Elmer Murphy, 70, of Smackover died Sunday in Little Rock Hospital following a long illness. Mr. Murphy was born Jan. 28, 1896 in Lisbon and was the son of Thomas Edgar and Martha Ballard Murphy. He was a retired dairyman and had lived in the Smackover area all of his life. He was a veteran of World War I. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lois Yocum Murphy of Smackover; a son, Major George E. Murphy of Fort Sill, Okla.; two daughters, Mrs. Marie Nowlin of Bryant, Ark., and Mrs. Relda Burton of Smackover; three sisters, Mrs. Elsie Harrell and Mrs. Day Hogg, both of El Dorado, and Mrs. Clemmie Bishop of Grady, Ark.; three brothers, Roy E. Murphy and Fred B. Murphy, both of El Dorado and Doyle O. Murphy of Smackover; and nine grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rehobeth Baptist Church with Elder W. W. Taylor officiating. Burial followed in the Strong Cemetery under direction of Pratt Funeral Home. Pallbearers were John Lee rell, Donald Hogg, Ralph Hogg, Bruce Murphy, George Grant Trull and Buford Willett. Mr. Murphy was a member of Rehobeth Church. (The El Dorado Times - July 25, 1966)
