April 27, 1937 - October 19, 2013
John Thomas Ward Sr. (Poppa), age 76 passed away Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the Medical Center of South Arkansas after a long illness. He was born April 27, 1937 in El Dorado.
He was preceded by his parents; Thomas and Murriel Ward, and grandparents, John and Nettie Hall, and William Arthur and Katie Ethel Ables Ward.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie Pyle Ward of El Dorado. They celebrated their 56th anniversary on April 6, 2013. He is also survived by his children; a son, John Thomas Ward Jr. (Kelley) of El Dorado, a son, Jeffrey Houston Ward (Billie) of Hartford, Arkansas, and two daughters, Jo Anne Ward Perry and Julia Marie Ward Haynes, both of El Dorado.
He is also survived by ten grandchildren; Autumn Lynn Ward, Kimberly Dawn Ward, Brianna Nicole Ward, Scooter Perry (Jessica), Brittany Dawn Perry, Jenna Popkin (Josh), Rachel Wendell (Wesley), Maxine Perry Mayhan (Peyton), Michelle Perry Peppers (Sean), and Jesse Ellmore Windle.
Mr Ward is also survived by great-grandchildren; Adriane Michael, Benjamin Thomas, and Chloe Marlene Perry, Bentley Castillo, Jacob Popkin, Lilly, Lila, and Jacob Popkin, Emma Windle, Kyle and Noe’lle Wheelus, and Dylan Pepper.
He is also survived by a sister, Sylvia Norris of Ashdown, Arkansas, and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces, and nephews. He is survived by his lifetime friends; Robert and Bill Kelley, Walter, Jack, and Kip Kelley, Danny Terry, Donnis Ray Russ, Deborah Leslie, and Chastity Russ.
Mr. Ward was a retired employee of Kroger, an honorary lifetime member of the Terry Hunting Club, and a member of the Union County Labor Board. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Norphlet. As a teenager, he helped with the conception of the Trinity Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman, deer hunter, gardener, and cook.
Visitation will be held at Young’s Funeral Directors on Tuesday, October 22 at 6 until 8 p.m.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23 at Young’s Chapel with Rev. Wendell Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Salem Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral
