Donna Jo McVey, daughter of the late Don McVey and Elna Jo Beams McVey, was born June 2, 1962 in Austin, Texas. She departed this life May 22, 2021 in Conway, Arkansas at the age of 58 years, 11 months and 20 days. Donna was a 1980 graduate of Oxford High School. She was the salutatorian of her class and an outstanding basketball player. She held the state record for most points scored in a high school basketball game for many years. She also excelled in softball and was a member of the independent league state champion girls’ softball team. In addition to softball, Donna was an outstanding baseball player. She played Little League, Babe Ruth and Pony League baseball while attending school in Oxford. She played first base most of the time but also shortstop and batted cleanup. After high school, she played basketball at North Arkansas Community College in Harrison, Arkansas. Continuing her interest in sports, she become a scout for college teams in the Conway area. She was a supporter of local basketball and football teams, as well as her beloved Arkansas Razorback and St. Louis Cardinals teams. Donna graduated from University of Central Arkansas with a Bachelor of Science in Education. Most of her working years were spent as an office coordinator at Acxiom Corporation, located in Conway. Donna enjoyed her work at Acxiom and she enjoyed sports and traveling. She was of the Baptist faith and an active member of Eastside Missionary Baptist Church in Conway.

Donna is survived by her best friend: Shirley Goodnight of Conway; many cousins including: Mike McCandlis and family of Oxford, Arlene Humphries Smith and family of Mammoth Spring, Charles Harris and family of Conway, Billy McVey and family of Ohio, Shirley McVey and family of Mountain Home, Bruce Yancey of Walla Walla, Washington, Tony Yancey and family of Wenatchee, Washington and a host of other relatives and many good friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Don McVey and Elna Jo Beams McVey and one cousin: Angela McCandlis Foster.

Memorial service and visitation will be held Monday, May 24 at Eastside Missionary Baptist Church in Conway with Brother Thom South officiating. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Memorial service: 6:30 p.m.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 25 at 1:00 p.m. at Eddie’s Family Funeral Home in Melbourne. Burial will be at Oxford Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Thomas Norvold, Ronnie Morris, David Jones, Bradley Goodnight, A. J. Wright, Boen Brakebill.

Honorary Pallbearers: Freddy Miller, Trey Miller, Drew Miller, Braden Brakebill.
