April 18, 1954 - March 25, 2015
Larry Donnell Jenkins was born on April 18, 1954, in Camden, Arkansas to Rosie Lee Jenkins. He was known to friends and family as “Dobbie.”Larry was an active and lively kid. Larry built his own first basketball goal and mostly all the boys from the Northside came to play. Larry was a dedicated member of the “Northside Club.” He accepted Christ at an early age and united with the C. M. E. Temple Church in Camden, Arkansas. He was a 1972 graduate of Camden Sr. High School where he played football and ran track. He was a trusted friend who never met a stranger.
Larry possessed a strong work ethic his first job was a carrier for the old Arkansas Democrat newspaper. This job inspired him to read the paper daily for the local and world news. Larry worked for the Labor Local Union #788 for more than 25 years. He was a dedicated employee of Aero Jet for 7 years until his health failed, where he retired at an early age.
In spite of his health Larry maintained and lived a wonderful life. He loved to hunt, fish and was an excellent cook. He was a member of the Oak Bottom Hunting Club. His life was simple, but not empty. He enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with his friends; either walking in the woods looking for the best game or sitting on the water’s edge awaiting the day’s biggest catch.
After 8 years of companionship and love; he asked Frances to be his wife. They were married on July 7, 2014. They later united with the Jehovah Jireh Church where he served as a trustee under the leadership of his eldest brother, Rev. Emanuel Ray Jenkins. Larry loved the Lord and surrendered his soul on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at 2:30 pm.
Because love is far greater than death, he will always be remembered by his wife and caregiver, Frances Gibbs Jenkins; his son, Larry D. Jenkins, Jr., of Hot Springs, AR; his cherished grandchildren, Chenoa Jenkins and KeAndre Jenkins both of Fayetteville, AR; his brothers, Rev. Emanul Ray (Deseree) Jenkins, Grady (Elsie) Jenkins of Camden, AR, and Roland (Faye) Jenkins of Stephens, AR; his sisters, Brenda Foreman, Renee (Lonnie) Bragg of Camden, AR and Ora Jenkins of Little Rock, AR; one aunt, Genella Burnell of Camden, AR and a special niece, Lisa Gulley.
He also leaves his mother-in-law, Zelma Smith; one special nephew, Brayden “hillbilly” Williams; two brothers-in-law, Russell Smith and Gary Harris; three sisters-in-law, Nessa Miller, Stella (Paul) Hale and Wanda Amos and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends that love him.
Funeral services will be held at the Bethel A.M.E. Church on Saturday, April 4 2015 at 1:00pm. Rev. Emanuel Ray Jenkins the pastor of Jehovah Jireh Church will officiate. Burial will follow at the Eternal Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 3, 2015 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Jehovah Jireh Church.
