Helen Mescher Ashley, 90, of North Little Rock passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2018. She was born on August 12, 1927 in Vilonia, Arkansas to John August Mescher and Lillian Quattlebaum. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chester Hughes Ashley; granddaughter, Tamara Henderson; two brothers, Dale and Edward Mescher; and one sister, Nadine Dyle.

Helen worked as an elementary school teacher for 25 years before retiring. She started her teaching career in a one room schoolhouse in Scotland, Arkansas. She then taught at Amboy Elementary in North Little Rock. She went to Oak Grove Elementary in the Pulaski School District where she started teaching the second grade and continued to teach second grade when she taught in Lonoke and then at Rose City in North Little Rock. She truly loved working with children.

She was a member of Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church in Bee Branch. She later attended Fuller Chapel, Shiloh, and Salem Primitive Baptist Church. She enjoyed doing embroidery, quilting, and gardening.

She is survived by her daughter Kathy Henderson (Jim); granddaughter, Melanie Warden (Sean); great-granddaughter, Trinity Warden; and three sisters, Vada Sigler, Sue Gotcher, and Mary Larue (Jim).

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 2, 2018 at the funeral home. Interment will be 1:30 p.m. at Sulphur Springs Cemetery in Leslie, Arkansas.
