Ella Vern Ray, age 79, of Kirby, died Monday, October 7, 2013. She was born on February 20, 1934, at Daisy, the daughter of Ellis Cook and Leo Parker Cook. On May 29, 1951, she was married to Herschel Ray who preceded her in death on December 29, 2008. She was also preceded in death by one brother, J. E. Cook; and four sisters, Pearl White, Chloie Chambers, Floy Rhodes and Erma Lou Chambers. She was a member of the Daisy Free Will Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time outdoors and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Arkansas Razorbacks. She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Richard and Lisa Ray of Kirby and David Ray of Mena; one daughter, Regina Ray of Glenwood; two grandchildren, Derek Ray and Lauren Ray of Kirby; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, October 10, 2013, in the Daisy Free Will Baptist Church with Bro. Kevin Jewell officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Bear Creek Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Honorary pallbearers will be Joy Khangi, Gladys Suttle, Jamie Pipkins, Charlotte Jones and Fran Gibson. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
