September 12, 1936 - June 10, 2019
Henry Calvin Jones, 82, of Thornton, Arkansas, went home to be with his Lord on June 10, 2019. H.C. was born in Ramsey, Arkansas on September 12, 1936, to the late Otis Jones and Evelyn Pennington Jones Taylor.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Martha Jean Abbott Jones; one daughter, Debbie Jones Ethridge (Steve) of Bentonville; one son, John Calvin Jones (Tara) of Glen Rose; and three grandsons, Levi Jones (Katie), Isaac Jones, and Andrew Ethridge. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Dorothy Jones Williams and Virginia Jones Launius; and one brother, Wendell Jones.
H.C. served in the Arkansas National Guard and was retired from Bear Brand Roofing, where he worked for 29 years in maintenance and as the felt mill superintendent. He loved working on his farm where he raised cattle, vegetables, and many varieties of fruit. He enjoyed sharing the produce he grew with his friends and family. H.C. loved the fight of keeping the squirrels and crows out of his pecan trees. He loved keeping the deer stands fixed and trails clear so Levi and Isaac could come and hunt deer and turkeys. And one of his greatest joys was sitting beside Andrew and listening to live bluegrass music.
H.C. was a long time board member of the Calhoun County Farm Bureau, the Thornton School District, and had served on the Board of Directors for the Arkansas Cattlemen’s Association. He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Bearden where he served in multiple roles, including deacon.
Visitation will be held Wednesday 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Benton Funeral Home in Bearden. A celebration of his life will be 11:00 am Thursday at First Southern Baptist Church in Bearden with Rev. Jimmy Owens and Rev. Shawn Watkins officiating. Burial will follow at Moss Cemetery in Bearden.
