A Celebration of Life for Peggy C. Root of Norfork, Arkansas, was held 2:00 pm, Monday, July 2, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church, with Reverend Nancy Taylor officiating.
Peggy passed away June 28, 2012, in Norfork, at the age of 80. She was born May 18, 1932, in Ashdown, Arkansas, the daughter of Richman and Emily Tucker Callaway. She married Frank Root on August 29, 1953, at Fort Rucker, Alabama. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics from Texas Women's University and her Masters from the University of Arkansas. The first part of her teaching career was in the public school system; she then became an Associate Professor at Southern Arkansas University until her retirement. Peggy was a lifetime resident of Arkansas and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was a gracious hostess and enjoyed reading and puzzles.
Peggy is survived by her husband, Frank Root; son, Wes (Kim) Root, of Napierville, IL; daughter, Jo Lynn (David) Robert, of Salesville, AR; seven grandchildren, Trevor Martin Wesley and Victoria Stephens Root, Joanna Danielle, Mordecai, Micah Aaron, Jan Rachelle Robert and Margaret Elizabeth Robert Thomas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, W.J., J.C., Enoch Elisha, Raymond Odean and Bill Callaway, and two sisters, Eva and Ruby Callaway.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church.
Arrangements are by Kirby and Family Funeral and Cremation Services.
