Bernice Weatherford Matthews, 85 of Star City, passed away in Star City on Tuesday, April 9, 2019.
She was born April 29, 1933 in Lincoln County to the late Earl Homer and Evie Jones Weatherford.
She was a member of Yorktown First Baptist Church and a homemaker; member of the Crafty Homemakers Club with the Lincoln County Extension Services; did a lot of judging at several county fairs; enjoyed having lunch and visiting with friends every day at Mike’s Place, especially her dear friends, Donna Gulledge and Linda Brockman. She also loved to cook, sew, garden and tend to her flowers. She also enjoyed her time at Dalton’s Place with Alma West.
Also preceding her in death were her husband, James William Matthews; 5 brothers, Gerald, Harvey, Boots, Hollis and Voy Weatherford, Sr.
Survivors include a son, Bentley Matthews; daughter, Libbie (Jim) Matthews, all of Star City; brother, Russell Lee Weatherford of Dumas; sister, Marilyn (James) Cook of Southhaven, MS; 5 grandchildren, Amber (Chad) Owen, Clay (Lezleigh) Matthews, Meagan Matthews, Trey (Chelsea) Matthews and Stevie Matthews; and 4 great-grandchildren, Anden Owen, Chasen Owen, Ascher Cole and Annsleigh Owen.
Visitation is 12:00-2:00PM Thursday at Griffin Funeral Chapel in Star City.
Graveside services are at 2:00PM Thursday, April 11, 2019, at Hickory Grove Cemetery, with Bro. Elmer Byerly and Phillip Green officiating.
Pallbearers are Mike Weast, Steve Frizzell, Paul Shepherd, Lynn Weatherford, Alan Cook and Doug Weatherford.
