Services were held at the First Baptist church Sunday afternoon for Monroe Abernathy, 62, who died at Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital Saturday, January 21, of a heart condition.
Mr. Abernathy became ill Christmas day and had been under medical care since that time, although his death came as a shock to his family and friends as his condition had seemed to improve of late.
The Rev. Guy Magee conducted the service and burial was in Elmwood Cemetery in Blytheville with LaForge Undertaking Company service.
Born February 20, 1893, at Troy, Miss., Mr. Abernathy had worked for Ark-Mo Power Company for about 30 years, being transferred to this city from Blytheville in 1937. He was a veteran of World War I.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Pearl Abernathy of this city; a son, Don Abernathy, student at State College, Jonesboro, Ark.; four daughters, Mrs. Angelo Mahoulis Jr. and Mrs. George Merrell III of Hayti, Mrs. Tommy Robertson and Mrs. Lavenda White, of Caruthersville; a sister, Mrs. J.H. Harris of Pontotoc, Miss.; and several grandchildren.
