MOUNT IDA – Waldo Wilson, 77, of Mount Ida, passed away Jan. 26, 2011, at his home. He was born Aug. 28, 1933, in Fannie, Ark., to the late L.T. (Preacher) and Lena Tedford Wilson.
Waldo graduated from Mount Ida High School in 1952. After serving in the military for two years, he attended Henderson State Teachers College and graduated with a degree in education. He taught elementary school in Story, Fountain Lake and Mount Ida. He retired in 1999 after 35 years as agency manager with Montgomery County Farm Bureau Insurance.
After retirement he joined with his sons forming Waldo Wilson and Sons Polled Herefords. He was avid hunter and sportsman and supported his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great grandchild, and all area youth in various sporting events. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Mount Ida, Montgomery County Farm Bureau Board, Arkansas Cattlemen's Association, and American Hereford Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sue (Evans) Wilson; two sons and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Lisa Wilson, and Jeff and Nan Wilson; grandchildren, Eric and wife Anna Wilson, Chad Wilson, Whitney Wilson, and T.J. Wilson, and great granddaughter, Scout Wilson, all of Mount Ida; and one brother and sister-in-law G. A. and Velzene Wilson of hot Springs; and a host of cousins, nephews, neieces, and friends.
Services were Saturday, January 29, at First Baptist Church of Mount Ida, with Brothers John Guerra and Jim Freeman officiating, with graveside services at Reed Cemetery in Story, Arkansas.
Pallbearers were: Paul Childress, Randy Barrett, Lloyd Tubbs, L.J. Warneke, Donny Ellison, and Rodney Standridge.
Honorary pallbearers were: Southwest Farm Bureau Insurance Agents, First Baptist Church Ambassador Sunday School Class, Charlie Burchfield, Dr's Rajesh Shroff, Danny Haynes, and Don Bodemann, Hospice Home Care Team in Hot Springs, and Montgomery County Farm Bureau Board and Agents.
