Dorris Jobe Stephens 83, of Navarre, Florida passed away peacefully Friday, September 9, 2011 at the home of her daughter. She was born November 19, 1927 in New Market, Alabama to James B. and Vera (McFerrin) Jobe.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband of 51 years, Fraser Stephens. Dorris is survived by her children, James Stephens and daughter-in-law, Jeannine of Benton, Arkansas; Mary Ann Matthews and son-in-law, Dan of Navarre, Florida; grandchildren, Stephen Matthews, Andrew Stephens and Carey Ann Matthews; her brother, Fred Jobe of Petersburg, Tennessee; niece and nephews, extended family and friends.

Dorris was Valedictorian of her graduating class at New Market High School, New Market, Alabama. She was a graduate of the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa. She valued education and was proud to have studied at a time when many women did not go to college. She was a teacher at Tuskegee High School at the time of her marriage in 1950. She continued to teach Home Economics for several years. She stopped teaching to be a homemaker and mother. Dorris and Fraser lived in Alabama, Wyoming, Arkansas, and Tennessee during their marriage.

Dorris lived in Clinton, Arkansas from 1988 with her husband until his death in 2001. At that time she moved to Petersburg, Tennessee to a house left to her by her parents. In the spring of 2008 she moved in with her daughter's family in Florida. During her life she enjoyed playing cards with friends and family. She enjoyed needlepoint and crochet and she was a wonderful cook. She loved being "Granny" to her three grandchildren and was an excellent caregiver. First she helped her brother to care for their parents and then taking care of her husband on her own during his last years. She was a breast cancer survivor and an Alzheimer's disease patient. The family would like to thank the staff of Covenant Hospice of Northwest Florida for their care of Dorris.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. and Funeral Service will be 2 p.m., Friday, September 16, 2011 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home Chapel Clinton, Arkansas. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Roller-McNutt Funeral Home Clinton 501-745-2151. Online guest book: www.rollerfuneralhomes.com.
