Our Heavenly Father visited the Life Touch Hospice Center in El Dorado on July 12, 2012 and decided it was time to take our beloved mother, granny and Aunt Boots; Melba Lee Barnett Brown home to be with him and her family in heaven. Gently, Our Lord carried her from this world through heaven gates after 85 years of life.
She was born December 27, 1926 in DeKalb Texas to Marion and Addie Crenshaw Barnett. After gowning up in Texas, Ms. Brown came to Camden in 1945 to visit her sister where she met, fell in love and married her beloved Clifton “Brownie” Brown who was her life love for 49 years. Together they raised their three children and three of their grandchildren teaching them the values of life and living faithfully for the Lord. Ms. Brown was a homemaker, although helped her husband in his housing moving and foundation business. Mrs. Brown was a member of First of Assembly of God Church in Camden for 63 years; servicing as a Sunday school teacher, and women mission leader. One of her biggest joys in life was making beautiful hand sown quilts for her family and gifts for baby showers, wedding or for special occasions; including raising money for the mission fields. She enjoyed quilting and fellowship ever Tuesday with the ladies of the church. Brother Elmer Nugent referred to her as Gods handmaiden, many times through his years as her pastor. Her faith and love for her Lord stand as her testament and legacy, not only to her family but anyone who knew her. She was a strong prayer warrior and stood in the gap for many including a one on one fight against Satan for the life and soul of her beloved oldest son. With the Lord on her side, he is living faithfully for the Lord. Her prayer and heart desire is for all of her family to live for the Lord and be together again in heaven.
Ms. Brown was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband Clifton “Brownie” Brown; grandson Timothy Lee “Timmy” Brown; her two brothers: Johnnie and Lawrence Barnett, three sisters: Bertha Barnett Bass; Viola Barnett Tidwell Efird; and Eloise Barnett Horneman- Caskey.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy her large loving family which includes her daughter, Ann Brown Smith (Perry); two sons, Clifton “Buster” Brown (Norma) and Richard Brown (Sarah) all of Camden; eight grandchildren, Cliff Brown (Jean) of Searcy, Tina Brown Hiller (Steve) of East Camden, Perry Don Smith (Wendi), Shannon Brown, April Brown Thompson (Jonathon) all of Camden, Robert Brown of Delaware Ohio, Anson Smith (Miranda) of Eudora, and Heather Brown Word (Andrew) of Magnolia; 19 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and her church family.
Visitation will be July 14, 2012 from 6-8 pm at Proctor Funeral Home in Camden. Memorial service to honor her life will be held at Camden First Assembly of God Sunday, July 15, 2012 at 2:00 PM with burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery on Hwy 376 south. Pastor Greg Sanders and Rev. Carl Tillery will officiate the service. Proctor Funeral Home will be in charge of the service.
