J.P. Simmons, age 84, of Pine Bluff, died Wednesday, July 27, 2011. Born May 5, 1927 at New Edinburg, he was a son of the late Henry Simmons and Mattie Simms Simmons. Mr. Simmons worked as a welder for Central Moloney for 36 years before retiring in 1990. He attended Forrest Park Assembly of God and was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and spoiling his grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings. Mr. Simmons is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rena Nelson Simmons, whom he married on June 25, 1955 at Greenville, Mississippi; a daughter, India Ashcraft and husband Scott of Woodlawn; a brother, James Simmons of Pine Bluff; and three grandsons, Trevor, Brandon and Clayton; and many other loving family and friends Funeral services will be Sunday, 2:00 p.m. at Fuller Hale-South Funeral Chapel with Brother Gary Cooper officiating. Interment will follow in Andrews Chapel Cemetery in Drew County. Visitation will be Saturday, 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
