Funeral services for Mr. Alvin Huffman, Jr., 69, of Blytheville, were held Wednesday, August 21, 3:30 p.m., at First Baptist Church in Blytheville. Rev. Dr. Alvis Carpenter officiated, and burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery with Frank Huffman Jr., John McLeod, Teddy Huffman, Chester Caldwell, Dan Caldwell, Mike Huffman, and Put Cunningham as pallbearers. Cobb Funeral Home of Blytheville was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Huffman died Monday, August 19, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.

Born in Yarbro, he was a lifelong area resident.

He was president of Huffman Brothers, Inc., and was in the lumber and wholesale plumbing and heating supply business most of his life. He was a director of the Blytheville Federal Savings and Loan Association, and a former president and member of the board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. He was a former executive vice president of the Radio and TV Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, former chairman of the board of trustees of Ouachita Baptist University and served as director of higher educational development for the Arkansas Baptist State Convention. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church in Blytheville and a former member of the Mississippi County Union Mission Board.

Mr. Huffman was a graduate of Mississippi College in Clinton, Miss., and served as a naval officer in World War II and was a member of the American Legion.

He was a former chairman of the board of the Blytheville Public Library and a former member of the board of the Mississippi County Public Library.

Mr. Huffman was a former member of the board of the Blytheville United Fund and had served as a campaign chairman. He was a member of the board of the Chickasawba Chapter of the American Red Cross.
A past president of the Blytheville Rotary Club, he was also a past governor of District 615 of the Rotary International and was a Paul Harris Fellow.

He was a former member of the Blytheville School Board, a former president of the Blytheville Chamber of Commerce and a former chairman of the board of trustees of Baptist Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Huffman was a past president and member of "Blytheville Unlimited."

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Virginia Myrick Huffman of Blytheville; a daughter, Mrs. Emily McLeod of Richmond, Va.; a brother, Frank Huffman, of Blytheville; two sisters, Mrs. Virginia Brown of Memphis and Mrs. Jetty Cunningham of Caruthersville, Mo.; and four grandchildren.
