L. D. Nelson

Loren Dale Nelson, son of the late Ralph Harry Nelson and Clara Alice Spangler Nelson, was born October 5, 1936 in Newark, Missouri. He departed this life January 19, 2018 in Ash Flat, Arkansas at the age of 81 years, 4 months and 14 days.

He was united in marriage to Sandra Belk April 6, 1963 in Yorktown, Texas and together they raised four children.

L. D. served in the United States Navy during Vietnam as a flight engineer on the P-3 Orion. He spent his life as a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, provider and friend. During most of his working years, he was a supervisor on tree planting crew. Before entering the Navy at age 18, L. D. was baptized at the Disciples Of Christ Church. He attended Horseshoe Bend Presbyterian Church.

L. D. is survived by his wife of 54 years: Sandra Nelson of the home; three children: Loren Dale Nelson, II of Melbourne, Rebkah Holcomb and husband Joe of Mayflower, Arkansas and Sarah Simpson and husband Tim of Paron, Arkansas; eight grandchildren: Emily Hinkle, Cecelie Loy, Hannah McCollum, Andrew Thompson, Chryssie Nelson, Robert Nelson, Landon Nelson and Jocia Nelson; nine great grandchildren; mother-in-law: Priscilla Shell Goehring of Melbourne; sisters-in-law: Marcella Belk, Linda Belk Finley of Zion; Cinda Rich of Angleton, Texas and Phyllis Nelson of Hannibal, Missouri; brothers-in-law: Pau Goehring of West Columbia, Texas and Larry Belk of Danbury, Texas and a host of other relatives and many good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Larry Nelson and Donald Nelson; one sister: Shirley Brotherton; one son: Jason Nelson; one granddaughter: Melissa Nelson and one daughter-in-law: Alisha Nelson.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 20 from 6-8 p.m. at Eddie’s Family Funeral Home in Melbourne. Funeral service will be Sunday, January 21 at 2:00 p.m at Howard Memorial Funeral Chapel in Melbourne. Burial will be at Caney Springs Cemetery.
