Norma Ruth Kelley, age 83, widow of Cecil D. Kelley, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2014, five years and one day after her husband. They were long time residents of Mountain Home, owning and operating the Raintree Restaurant for approximately 12 years, and then the Elbow Room for an additional 12 years.
She lived and worked in New Jersey for years before moving to Arkansas. She was employed at Bell Laboratories in Piscataway, New Jersey as well as maintaining the homefront. After coming to Arkansas she worked at Baxter Healthcare before taking over the Raintree. She said her husband needed a job, so she put him to work also. They were joined by their son Jim. They worked together until retirement and then decided to take it easy. Jim has three children, grandchildren to Norma and Cecil (Buster). Justin and Jason (twins) and Rebecca were their joy.
Norma was born on April 10, 1939 in Shirley, Arkansas. She married Cecil in April 1948. They were the typical young couple and traveled the U.S. until they settled in New Jersey in 1960 and then Arkansas in 1974.
Norma was a friendly sort, got along with most all, but having red hair, don't make her mad. She liked animals, and her pet Boston Terrier was her prize. She loved to crochet and knit when the weather was bad. Other than that, she was a homemaker and companion.
She is survived by Jim Kelley, Justin Kelley (Amber), Jason Kelley (Jessica), and Rebecca Kelley Tyson (Chad). She also has great-grandchildren: Jackson Drew Kelley, Isabelle Cora Kelley (Justin's), Alexandra Cornett Kelley, and one in the 'hopper', due in the Spring to Jason.
Norma passed quietly at home in Duluth, Georgia where she and Jim had relocated to be close to the rest of the family. There will be a Graveside Service at the Big Flat Cemetery, Big Flat, Arkansas, Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 2:00P.M. with Frank Daniels officiating. She was our 'huckleberry', then, now, and always.
Roller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
