LeFORS, Martin Sherman - When Sherman LeFors, widely known Gentry farmer, failed to return Tuesday afternoon from a hunting trip, a search was made for him. His dead body was found late that day at the edge of the woods about a half a mile from the family home. His death had resulted from a charge from a shot gun which was found near his body. Death had been almost instantaneous. Mr. LeFors had left home that morning to go squirrel hunting and failing to return later in the day Mrs. LeFors sent his nephew, Kenneth LeFors, in search of her husband. The body was found near a rail fence. Mr. LeFors was the son of B.P. (Buck) LeFors, a well known Republican leader who died a number of years ago. He was born on the LeFors homestead one-half mile north of Gentry about 42 years ago. He had a wide acquaintance and was quite well known. E.O. LeFors, city recorder of Bentonville, is a second cousin. Besides his wife LeFors is survived by two sons, Gene LeFors, Springfield, Mo. and Don LeFors of Mount Vernon, Wash.; and a sister, Mrs. Sam Peek of Decatur.

The body of Sherman Lefors, prominent farmer residing one mile north of Gentry, was found at the edge of woods a half mile from his home at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Lefors death had resulted from a charge of No. 6 shot from a shotgun found near his body. The shot, which had been fired at close range, entered the center of the breast and ranged to the left. Death had been instantaneous, according to Dr. Clemmer, examining physician. Mr. Lefors had gone squirrel hunting at 9:00 a.m. and when he failed to return at noon his wife called a nephew, Kenneth Lefors, to search for him. The body was found near a rail fence. Coroner Leon Wasson was notified and the jury viewed the body at the death scene and again at the undertaking establishment. A verdict had not been reached before press time. Besides his wife Mr. Lefors is survived by two sons, Dean Lefors, Springfield, Missouri and Neil Lefors, Paden, Oklahoma; three brothers, Frank and Earl, both of Gentry and Don, Mount Vernon, Washington; and a sister, Mrs. Sam Peek, Decatur, Arkansas. Funeral services will be held at the family home this afternoon at 2:00 o'clock and will be conducted by Rev. Joe W. English. Interment will be in the Bozarth cemetery.

A vast number of friends and relatives paid their last tribute to their friend and loved one last Thursday afternoon at the Lefors home north of Gentry. Mr. Sherman Lefors, who had lived in this community all his life and enjoyed the respect of all his acquaintances. The writer, like brother English, hardly knew him except through those friends who had known him these many years. Brother English conducted the funeral service and we regret that we cannot here repeat the words of comfort that he gave to the bereaved. Martin Sherman Lefors, son of B.P. and Margaret Lefors, was born July 7th, 1883 near Gentry, Arkansas where his home has always been. August 6th, 1905 he was united in marriage to Miss Ora Highfill and to this union two sons were born, Neil and Dean. He leaves his wife and two sons, three brothers, Frank, Don and Earl Lefors; two sisters, Mrs. Effie Peek and Mrs. Myrtle Hardcastle, and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his untimely departure.
