Ms. Alice Maurine Sutherland of Batesville, Arkansas, departed this life on Monday, January 16, 2017 at the age of 93. She was born June 30, 1923, in Newport, the daughter of Jake and Myrtle (McMinn) Sutherland.

Ms. Sutherland worked many years for Louisiana Housing Assistance, in charge of the Child Nutrition Program. She loved watching the Razorbacks play, and was an excellent cook.

Ms. Sutherland was a member of the Harrison Street Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Leslie, Gene, Joe, and Aaron Sutherland; one sister, Imogene Huey; an infant daughter; and her parents.

Ms. Sutherland is survived by two sons, Bobby McCartney and wife, Ann, of Batesville, Arkansas, and Billy McCartney and wife, Emma Lee, of Bossier City, Louisiana; one daughter, Brenda Long of Bossier City, Louisiana; six grandchildren, Shane Felts, Brandon McCartney, Blake McCartney, Pam Barnes, Kim McCartney, and Leann Sabala; eight great grandchildren, Ashton Barnes, Alyson Barnes, Tyler McCartney, Jacob Felts, Garrett McCartney, Jake McCartney, Luke Sabala and Burgin Sabala; and her sisters-in-law, Pauline, Vonnie and Fannie Sutherland.

Graveside services are 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Remmel-McCall Cemetery.
