Mrs. Vonnie V. (Smith) Sutherland of Grubbs, Arkansas, departed this life on Sunday, February 16, 2020, at the age of ninety-one. She was born September 21, 1928 in Waldenburg, the daughter of Henry Owen and Zadie Bird (Phariss) Smith.
Mrs. Sutherland worked many years with her husband, sons, and grandsons on their farm. She had many hobbies including cooking, sewing, gardening, canning, and quilting. She loved collecting Beanie Babies and villages. She was a member of the Grubbs Church of Christ. Her greatest joy was the time she spent helping raise her grandchildren.
She is survived by her grandsons, Dion Sutherland and wife, Maggy, and Chad Sutherland; one sister, Mazel Prince; three great grandchildren, Tyler and wife, Kristy, Sam and wife, Summer, and Sydney; one great great grandchild, Mila Joe; and three special friends, Ruth McElrath, Sylvia Parker, and Jessie Mae Phillips.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Dion Sutherland, Tyler Sutherland, Sam Sutherland, Chad Sutherland, Doug Sutherland, Stacy Miser, and Kyle McLaughlin. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne McElrath, Darron London, Tim London, Roger Sutherland, and Dennis Sutherland.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Remmel-McCall Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home Thursday 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
