SPRINGDALE — Gene Phillips, 78 of Springdale died Dec. 24, 2008, at his home. He was born Sept. 21, 1930, in Ponca City, Okla., to Lonnie S. and Pearl Hewitt Phillips.

He retired from Jones Truck Lines as manager of the interline department in 1991, after 29 years of service. He also worked with his father as a Realtor for Ozark Land Co. from 1960 to 1967. He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force from January 1951 to December 1954 during the Korean War. He was an Eagle Scout and a former Scout Master of Troop 112.

He graduated from Springdale High School in 1948. He attended College of the Ozarks where he lettered in football from 1948 to 1950. He also attended the University of Arkansas in 1955.

He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Springdale. He enjoyed fishing and traveling and was an avid Razorback football and basketball fan. Most of all he loved his family.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Marion Juanita Phillips, Martha Helen Munson and Katherine Marie Largent.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Wilma Phillips of the home; one son, Michael Phillips of Lowell; three daughters, Ginger Bickerton Sampson of Seattle, Lisa Carlin of Westlake Village, Calif., and Sherri Payne of Clarksville; 10 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, two nephews and two nieces.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale with the Rev. Charlie Foster officiating. Burial will be in Bluff Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Wilma Dean Phillips, 92, of Springdale passed away Friday, September 6, 2019 at The Maples. She was born July 4, 1927 in Springdale to Osie (Jonah) and Minnie Pearl Lynch Kendrick.

Wilma was a homemaker and a member of Cross Church. She was a 1946 graduate of Springdale High School and attended the Springfield College of Commerce in Springfield, MO. She was soon employed by Jones Truck Line where she met her husband of 51 years. She later retired from Wal-Mart after 15 years of service.

Wilma enjoyed fishing, traveling and loved working in her flower gardens. Most of all she cherished family gatherings and spending time with family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Lonie E. (Gene) Phillips, her parents and six brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include one son, Michael Phillips of Springdale; three daughters, Ginger Phillips of Seattle, WA, Lisa Carlin of Westlake Village, CA and Sherri Payne and husband David of Alma; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 12, 2019 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm at Bluff Cemetery in Springdale immediately following the visitation with Charlie Foster officiating.
