Alma Mae Hodge

Mrs. Alma May (Carlton) Hodge, 109, of Beedeville, departed this life on Tuesday, February 18, 2014. She was born May 10, 1904 in Peru, Illinois, the daughter of Noah and Grace (Lorton) Carlton.
She was a homemaker and sewed for the WPA during the Depression. She spent much time canning and gardening to provide for her family. Mrs. Hodge was a member of the Beedeville Church of Christ. She was previously at Cow Lake Church of Christ where she taught the beginners Sunday School Class. Mrs. Hodge was a wonderful seamstress, and loved to sew for the Beedeville and Cow Lake Community, where she served as hairdresser for her family and friends. Mrs. Hodge was a great servant of her community.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ernie Hodge; two sons, Robert Hodge and Ernie Junior Hodge; two daughters, Louise Pennington and Betty Stott; five brothers, Melvin, Howard, John, Woodrow, Clarence, and George Carlton; and two sisters, Ethel Mary Carlton and Wilma Catherine Carlton.
She is survived by one son, Neal Hodge of Hampton, Arkansas; three daughters, Joyce Oakley of El Paso, Arkansas, Ann McGee and husband Dan of Beedeville, Arkansas, and Sondra Abney and husband David of Beedeville, Arkansas; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family extends a special thanks to Sharon Greggs, White River Agency on Aging, and the Home Healthcare at White County Medical Center for their loving care.
Funeral services are 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Beedeville Church of Christ with interment in Eightmile Cemetery. Friends may visit at the church Friday, 1:30 until service.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Roy Pennington, Jr., Steve Oakley, Ernie Hodge, Jim Hodge, Berry Abney, and Brad McGee. Honorary pallbearers are Dan McGee and David Abney.
