Simmie Edward O'Mary, 95, of White Hall, passed away Monday, May 5, 2014 at his home.
Born April 14, 1919, in Tinsman, Arkansas, he was one of nine children of the late John Madison and Dora A. Dodd O'Mary.
He was reared and received his early education in Hampton, Arkansas, graduating from Hampton High School. He attended Arkansas A&M (now University of Arkansas at Monticello) where he received his Bachelor Degree in 1948. He continued his education at Peabody College in Nashville, Tennessee where he earned his Masters in Education. Mr. O'Mary always believed no matter how much schooling he had the greatest education he received was from the teachings of the Bible
.
In 1942, he enlisted in the United States Navy serving during World War II as Lieutenant.
After returning from the Navy, he married Estelle N. Priddy, in May of 1946. Together, they shared nearly fifty-five years life, love and memories until her death in 2000.
In 1965, he and his wife moved to the Pine Bluff area, where he took a position as the principal of Plainview Elementary School and principal at Moody Elementary later in his career. He was a principal in the White Hall School District for sixteen years retiring in 1981.
He was a faithful member of 6th Avenue Church of Christ as well as a former member of 28th Avenue Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Estelle O'Mary; four sisters, Ruby Luckadoo, Ilene Wages, Lesta Mae Gorman, and Sally Lou Gentry; and three brothers, George, Marion & Noah O'Mary.
His survivors include, his daughter, Melissa Moore, and husband, C.J., of White Hall; his three grandchildren, Taylor Woolems, Fisher Woolems and Jericho Moore, all of White Hall; and one sister, Rachel Watson, of Sheridan.
Service will be 10:00AM, Friday, May 9, 2014, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Mr. Randall Elrod officiating.
Burial will follow in Camp Ground Cemetery at Hampton.
