George William "Billy" McWhirter, 86, of Fordyce died Saturday March 24, 2018. Born September 3, 1931 at Hampton, he was a son of the late Floyd and Beulah McWhirter. He served in the Army during the Korean War where he was stationed in Germany. He worked as a deputy sheriff under Sheriff Lee Hornaday and worked as a city officer and jailer under Chief Joe Pennington for the city of Fordyce.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, William Keith McWhirter; one sister, Lina Bell; two brothers, James and J.C. McWhirter; and his wife of forty four years, Emma Lou McWhirter.
He is survived by four sisters, Dean Williams of Tinsman, AR, Annie McWhirter of Camden, AR, Mary Shores of Van Buren, AR, Wanda Roberts (James) of Hampton, AR; three brothers, Paul McWhirter of Hampton, AR, Bobby McWhirter (Hess) of Colt, AR, Julius (Sue) of Joshua, TX; one son, Guy Christen (Angie) of Smithdale, MS, three daughters, Darlene Lester (Tim) of Mabelvale, AR, Penny McClain (Bobby) of Fordyce, AR, Kelly Aplin (Kenny) of Holly Springs, AR; eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Campground Cemetery. Arrangements are by Benton Funeral Home of Fordyce. To sign the online register visit www.bentonfuneralhome.net.
