James Hardy Strickland, 77, died Sunday in the Calhoun County Clinic following a lengthy illness. He was born May 1, 1888 near Hampton, the son of the late James and Mollie Strickland. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ethel Jones Strickland of Hampton: four sons, State Trooper Johnny Ray Strickland of Camden; Jack Strickland of Thornton; J. C. Strickland of El Dorado; James Strickland of Alameda, Calif.; five daughters, Mrs. Troy Buzbee, Mrs. Vester Bowen of Tinsman: Mrs. Mary Strickland of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Neil Sharp, Little Rock; Mrs. Clinton Matthews, Arlington, Texas; one brother, Ira Strickland of Tinsman; three sisters, Mrs. Vergie Thomason, Mrs. Essie Ritchie of Tinsman and Mrs. Ella Grubbs of Fordyce; 26 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren. Funeral and burial services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Camp Ground Cemetery near Hampton. The body will remain at Benton Funeral Home, Fordyce until service time.
