When Martha Jane Crisp was born on August 22, 1904, in Monroe, Arkansas, her father, Daniel, was 41, and her mother, Mittie, was 32. She married Robert Ben Gunnells on May 2, 1925, in Arkansas. They had two children during their marriage. She died in April 1982 in Marvell, Arkansas, at the age of 77.
