When Claudie A Johnston and his twin sister Audie Mae were born on March 24, 1911, in Red Bay, Alabama, their father, James, was 20, and their mother, Mary, was 23. He married Vergie Irinie Smith on December 15, 1937, in Phillips, Arkansas. They had four children during their marriage. He died on September 9, 1980, in Arkansas at the age of 69, and was buried in Walnut Corner, Arkansas.
