Hodge served his country with two stints in the military, World War II and the Korean conflict. He was a Private First Class in the US Army, serving from Aug 15, 1944 to Aug 31, 1946. A Rifleman, he earned the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon with 2 bronze stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 bronze stars, the Good Conduct Medal, Army Occupation Ribbon (Japan), Victory Ribbon and 2 Overseas Service Bars.
Again, from February 28, 1950 until February 11, 1954, Hodge served his country, this time in the Air Force, gaining the rank of Staff Sergeant, as a nuclear weapons technician.
Hodge was awarded many citations and awards for his service and was honorably discharged from duty.
