Ms. Daphine Vermont Lawson Halliburton of Diaz, Arkansas, departed this life on Thursday, September 13, 2018, at the age of 74. She was born April 27, 1944 in Jefferson City, Missouri, the daughter of Walter Gray and Mary Doris Riley Emery.
Ms. Halliburton spent a great deal of time as a volunteer at Harris Hospital, Jackson County Emergency Squad, Girl Scouts, and the American Council for the Blind. She enjoyed yard sales, flea markets, gardening, and watching hummingbirds.
Ms. Halliburton was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Eara Burgess; one brother, Tom Hatfield; one sister, Judy “Chick” Hatfield; and three grandchildren, Coy Burgess, Jr., Galena Henry, and Jamie Wasson.
She is survived by one son, Jay Mabry and wife, Kim, of Newport; three daughters, Beverly Rogers and husband, Rocky, of West Plains, Missouri, Vickie Due and husband, Michael, of Newport, and Bobbie Jean Burgess and husband, Coy, of Sulphur Rock, Arkansas; four brothers, Benjy Emery and wife, Kim, of Possum Grape, Harold Emery and wife, Michelle, of Searcy, Walter “Tine” Emery and wife, Denise, of Thida, and Ronnie Lawson and wife, Delpha, of St. Joseph, Missouri; two sisters, Joanna Ervin and husband, Phillip of Yucaipa, California, and Ada Emery of Harrisburg; thirty-three grandchildren; fifty-one great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and several other relatives and friends.
Friends may visit at the funeral home, Friday, 5:00-7:00 p.m. Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel, with interment in Oakland Hill Cemetery.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Ashley Bethel, Jay Mabry, Brian Decker, Steven Lucas, Kandance Bethel, and Thomas Mueller. Honorary pallbearers are Dillon Canard and J.C. Bethel.
