Hermon Bates, 88, of Waldo, died Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, at the Magnolia Health and Rehab Center in Magnolia.
He was born June 2, 1921, in the Lamartine Community in Arkansas to the late Alfred and Virginia Flaherty Bates, and was also preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Joyce Bates.
Hermon served as a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force during World War II and retired after 22 years of service. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and was a former member of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors are his two daughters, Tina Joyce Marlar and husband James of Waldo, and Charlotte Ann Pierce of Magnolia; one son, Leonard Alfred Bates of Magnolia; grandsons, Jarryd Allen Dempsey and Johnathon Austin Dempsey, both of Waldo; and one sister, Hazel Burke of Magnolia.
Graveside services were held Saturday at Shiloh Cemetery with Bro. Bob Inmon officiating, and under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home of Magnolia.
