Dbl stone w/Myra (Cooper) Barnwell
Mr. Garland Doyle Barnwell, 89, of Bradford, Arkansas departed this life February 2, 2020 at his home. He was born September 13, 1930 in Union Hill to the late William Norman and Carrie Elizabeth Burrow Barnwell.
Garland married Myra Cooper on June 5, 1953 and they spent the next 66 years raising a family together. He was a member of the Bradford Church of Christ. Mr. Barnwell was in the United States Army and served in the Korean Conflict from 1951 to March of 1953. After serving his country, he began a career at Victor Metal in Newport that spanned more than 49 years until his retirement at age 70. He worked on the farm raising cattle and hay until the time of his passing. Garland enjoyed hunting and “out-doing” the son in laws. Garland loved his family and provided a good life for them.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Merle Barnwell.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Myra Cooper Barnwell of Bradford; daughters, Karen Morton and husband Joe, Vickie Clem and husband Dennis, and Beverly Reeves; a son, Garland Doyle Barnwell II, all of Bradford; five grandchildren, Chasity Andrews and husband Scotty, Leann Mobley and husband Jeremy, Joseph Morton and wife Amanda, Waylon Reeves and wife Melanie, and Winter Yielding and husband Chris; thirteen great grandchildren; one brother, Alfred Barnwell of Little Rock; three sisters, Gwendolyn Spicer and husband Charles of Hot Springs, Velva Stoner and Phyllis Dunlap, both of Little Rock.
Visitation is Saturday, February 8, at Bradford Memorial Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery.
