Elder L. E. (Ed) McCulough, 89, passed away Thursday, January 13th, at Life Touch Hospice in El Dorado, AR. He was born July 29, 1921 in Laneburg, AR to W.L. (Will) and Mary Ellen (McAllister) McCullough. He was a WWII Veteran serving with the U.S. Marine Corps in the South Pacific from 1941 to 1945. Ordained in 1957, Bro. McCulough was a Baptist preacher and served as pastor of many churches throughout Arkansas. He continued to preach whenever called until a few weeks before his passing; over the course of his ministry, he led many to Christ and strengthened the faith of countless others.
He is predeceased by his parents and his loving wife of 49 years, Christine (Stringer) McCulough, who passed away in 2003; sister Beatrice Smith, brothers Frank McCullough and James (Jim) McCullough, and granddaughter Kim Alisha McCulough.
He is survived by his two sons and daughter-in-law: Luther W. McCulough and wife Cheryl of Hampton, AR, and Kenneth E. McCulough of Jacksonville, FL. Other survivors include his sister: Frances Hunter of Laneburg, AR. Two brothers: Bill (Betty) McCullough of Sheridan, AR and Bob (Theresa) McCullough of Little Rock, AR. Grandson: Wesley McCulough of Hampton, AR. Granddaughters: Shawna Speer of Charlotte, NC and Krystal Matkin of Hampton, AR. Brother-in-law: Rhea Stringer (Wanda) of Waldo, AR. Three great-grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews, and great and great-great nieces and nephews. Bro. McCulough also leaves a host of dear friends and church congregations who were always there for him and his family. The family would like to thank Dr. Matt Calloway, Shonda Ratliff, and the rest of the staff at Life Touch Hospice in El Dorado for their loving care over the past three years.
Visitation will be Friday evening, Jan. 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lewis Funeral Home in Magnolia, AR. Funeral service will be held at Lewis Funeral Home Chapel in Magnolia on Saturday, Jan. 15, at 10 a.m. Graveside service immediately following at Shiloh Lamartine Baptist Church Cemetery outside Waldo, AR. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Bro. Ed’s name to Life Touch Hospice in El Dorado or to the Baptist Missionary Association missions fund or to a charity of your choice.
