When Clara Almada Mahle Mathews was born on July 24, 1858, in Arkansas, her father, John, was 24, and her mother, Hylinda, was 20. She married William Valentine Mathews on November 17, 1903, in Arkansas City, Arkansas. They had two children during their marriage. She died on August 24, 1932, in Stuttgart, Arkansas, at the age of 74, and was buried there.
