Deputy George Griffin succumbed to injuries sustained five days earlier when his patrol car collided with another automobile as he responded to assist another deputy.
He had his emergency equipment activated when he entered the intersection of Booth Road and South Main Street in Searcy. His patrol car collided with another vehicle in the intersection and then struck a utility pole.
He was flown to the University of Arkansas Medical School, in Little Rock. Deputy Griffin never regained consciousness.
Deputy Griffin had served with the White County Sheriff's Department for 2 years, and had previously served with the Kensett Police Department, and Judsonia Police Department. He is survived by his wife, son, three daughters, and six grandchildren.

Deputy George Clifford Griffin, Sr., age 48, of Bald Knob died Tuesday, June 21, 2005. He was born February 8, 1957 in Dade City, Florida to Lonnie Eric and Margaret Stephens Griffin. He is survived by his loving wife Patti; three daughters Christine Grow of Bald Knob, Jennifer Weeks of Searcy, and Kimberly Smith of Antioch; one son George Clifford Griffin, Jr. of Bald Knob; two sisters Mary Phillips of Tarrytown, Florida and Carolynn Michelle Griffin of Leesburg, Florida; two brothers William Anthony Griffin of Hilliard, Florida and Lonnie Edward Griffin of Brooksville, Florida; Mother and Father-in-Law Alla Mae and Bobby Groover of Darby, Florida; and 6 Grandchildren along with a host of other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Lonnie and Margaret Griffin and his Grandparents. George began fulfilling his lifelong dream of becoming a police officer when he was elected Constable of Caldwell Township many years ago. From there he moved further into law enforcement joining the Judsonia Police Department and later moving to the Kensett Police Department. His law enforcement career then led him to the White County Sheriff's Department, serving there for the past two years, where he was described as dedicated and hard-working. He will be loved and missed by all who knew him. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 25, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at the Downtown Church of Christ with interment following at Oakland Cemetery in Possum Grape. Visitation will be Friday, June 24, 2005 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Roller-Daniel Funeral Home.
