LAKE CITY — Ruth DePriest Varner, 82, of Lake City died July 8, 2006, at Lakeside Nursing Center in Lake City. She was born June 2, 1924, in Nettleton to Bill and Effie Wilhelm DePriest. She was preceded in death by her husband, A.G. "Ham" Varner. She attended Arkansas State University and taught school in the Caraway School District. She was a licensed social worker and a financial counselor for the Springdale Memorial Hospital for 20 years before returning to Lake City.
Survivors include three sons, Richard Varner of Lake City, Bill Varner of Ava, Mo., and John Varner of Lake City; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Friendship Cemetery in Springdale with the Rev. Jim Huffman officiating.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sisco Chapel in Springdale.
Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army National Headquarters, P.O. Box 269, Alexandria, Va. 22313.
