When William Leo Kapales was born on September 3, 1915, in Boas, Arkansas, his father, James, was 22 and his mother, Bertha, was 20. He married Julia Ernestine Sheldon on March 1, 1939. They had four children during their marriage. He died on March 5, 2009, in Hoxie, Arkansas, at the age of 93.
