And his wife,
Dorothy "Dot" Teague Guthrie
July 06, 1929 - January 04, 2018

Dorothy Jean (Dot) Teague Guthrie was born July 6, 1929 in Guion, Arkansas to Stanley J. Teague and Faye Louise Bobbitt Teague. She peacefully entered into Eternal Life, in the company of her beloved daughter, Laura, and dear friend and fellow “Golden Girl”, Kim Hall, on January 4, 2018 in Clinton, Arkansas at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 29 days.

Dot’s childhood began running the hills around Guion and getting into mischief. She confessed to catching a good portion of this railroad and silica mining town on fire playing with matches, as well as thinking she had was going to meet her demise at a young age when she and a friend, using a leaky washtub as a boat and a rotten stick as an oar, were washed from the spillway to the inlet to the White River. Luckily, there was an overhanging branch just within reach so the story of Dot was to continue for many more years.

On August 2, 1955, Dot married the love of her life and best friend, William E. (Bill) Guthrie in Union Gap, Washington. Money was scarce and times were lean. They saved a bit from working the harvest and bought Dot a wedding band using a coupon they were given with their wedding license.

In 1960, their lives changed, when their one and only child, Laura, entered the scene. God chose them to be the perfect, hand-picked parents for this child. It was truly a match made in Heaven.

Though she did not have much kin, Dot had a very large family. She never believed that it took blood lineage to be an actual family-all it took was love. And of that, she had plenty. She worked at many jobs thru the years but her true calling was caring for and about others.

Dot is survived by her daughter, Laura, of Center Ridge; Step Mother, Dorothy Cantwell Teague of Norfork; Sisters-in-law: Betty Guthrie McCollum, Shirley Guthrie Hill, both of Melbourne, and VaRue Guthrie of Guion ; Brother-in-Law Johnnie Guthrie of Batesville; Nephews, Wally Guthrie, David and Doyle McCollum, Danny and Tommy Taylor, Chris Hill, Robert Guthrie, Jr., and Hoyt Peckham; Nieces, Diane McCollum Honey, Gaile Guthrie Ranz, Nancy Guthrie Pierce, Nancy Gillihan, Juanice Brewer and cousin Jon Estes Johnson. She is also survived by dearest friend, Eva Willett Gaskins and “The Howard Kids”-Ryan Howard, Ashley Howard Johnson and Anthony Howard; Kim and Evelyn Hall; Martha and Larry Singley; and Bill and Nina Wright.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Bill; Sister Robby Fern Teague; father, Stanley J. Teague and Mother, Faye Louise Harris; Step-father Harold Harris and beloved friend Billy Ray Howard.

Services for Dorothy will be held at Eddie’s Family Funeral Home in Melbourne, AR on January 7, 2018, with Ryan Howard officiating. Visitation will begin at 1230 with services beginning at 2 pm. Requested attire is casual and colorful. Pallbearers are Anthony Howard, Jeremy Johnson, David McCollum, Doyle McCollum, Tommy Taylor, and Chris Hill. Honorary Pallbearers are Danny Taylor, Larry Singley, Bobby Guthrie, Bill Wright, Stacy Wright, and Robert Wright.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Melbourne United Methodist Church, Manna House or ICARE (Izard County Animal Rescue Effort).

As a legacy for this little Quaint woman, please do these things: Love with your whole heart and then a little more; give to others when you can, and sometimes even when you cannot; and never, ever, miss an opportunity to make someone smile.
