WOLFE, Bill - Bill Wolfe, sentenced to the state penitentiary for burglary at the last term of circuit court in Benton county, died at the penitentiary hospital Saturday morning as the result of wounds inflicted by officers. In company with four other convicts Wolfe attempted to escape from the convict farm a few days ago and L.B. Hartshorne, one of the five, was wounded and captured. Another was later captured and Wednesday night of last week Wolfe and D.A. Daniels, another of the convicts, were discovered as they were attempting to cross the Saline river bridge on the Sheridan-Fordyce road. Both men, it is said, attempted to draw guns when the officers opened fire, killing Daniels and wounding Wolfe so seriously that he died.

The remains of Bill Wolfe, escaped convict who was killed in a gun battle with officers and who died in a Little Rock hospital last week, arrived here last Saturday and were taken to Cherokee City for burial. His mother made the request that he be brought there to be laid away.
