LOWELL — Hershel V. "Bud" Owen, 84, of Lowell, Ark., (Hickory Creek Area) died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at Earlene Howard Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale, Ark.

He was born Aug. 24, 1926, in Eagle Pass, Texas, the son of Lettie Ima Wolfe Owen and Horace Owen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Horace "Son" Owen Jr.; one sister, Barbara "Bobbie" James; two wives, Susie Whittle Owen, the mother of his children, and Pauline Armer Owen.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Eulah Dean Phillips Owen, of the home; one son, Jerry Owen and wife, Linda, of Rogers; one daughter, Shirley Gray and husband, Jimmy, of Farmington, Ark.; one sister, Mary Rayna Shriver of Salina, Kan.; three grandchildren, Joy Feesler and husband, Jay, Jeremy Owen and wife, Amy, and Lory Turner and husband, Bo; four great-grandchildren, Evan, Abby, Kyra and Jackson; two stepsons, Johnny Falkner and wife, Vikki, and Jackie Nester and wife, Sherri, three step grandchildren, Janna Perry and husband, Josh, Jackson Nester and wife, Tiffany, and Josh Dillon; four step-great-grandchildren, Ireland Rose and Pearl Lydia Perry, Dacia Nester and Kaedon Dillon; and a host of family and friends.

He was a member of Calvary Freewill Baptist Church. He loved to hunt and fish and had won the E&E fishing tournament nine years in a row with his fishing partner, Bobbie Bowen.

Bud retired from George's Inc., with 39 years of service as truck shop manager. He also worked for Jim Bryant Motors and Late Chevrolet.

He was one of the founders of Hickory Creek Volunteer Fire Department. He served as assistant chief for 25 years, and was on the board of directors to present date.

He served in World War II with the U.S. Navy from September 1943 to 1946, American Area Campaign, European and Middle Eastern Campaign World War II Victory of Philippine Liberation.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011, at Calvary Freewill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Clark Snow and the Rev. Arthur Lee Galloway officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the National Cemetery in Fayetteville.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 30, at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale.

Pallbearers will be members of the Hickory Creek Fire Department, led by Chief Mark Trollinger. Honorary pallbearers are Roy Dalton Phillips, Leon Beal, Gary George, Otto Jech, Dan Downing, Gary Smith, Bruce Wilkins, Jackie Bowen, Bobbie Bowen and George (Budgie) Glover.
