SPRINGDALE — George Washington Elery, 84, of Springdale died Jan. 29, 2002, at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale. He was born Feb. 22, 1917, in Jamestown (Johnson County) to John Holman and Zilpha Rhoades Elery. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church and was a retired truck driver and coal miner. He was a resident of Holland Nursing Home-North, where he lived with his wife for the past two years.

Survivors include his wife, Goldie Elery, to whom he was married Feb. 21, 1936; two sons, Kenneth Ray Elery of Forney, Texas, and Charlie Odell Elery of Elm Springs; two daughters, Louise Mills of Perryville and Lucille Frances Thomas of Springdale; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Friendship Cemetery with the Rev. W.C. Blanton officiating. Arrangements are by Memorial Funeral Home of Springdale.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

SPRINGDALE — Goldie Mae Griffith Elery, 81, of Springdale died Feb. 4, 2002, at Holland Nursing Center where she was a resident. She was born May 8, 1920, in Salus (Newton County) to Harrison Daily and Nora Bell Sanderson Griffith. She was a Pentecostal and a homemaker. Her husband, George Washington Elery, to whom she was married Feb. 21, 1936, died Jan. 29, 2002.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Ray Elery of Forney, Texas, and Charlie Odell Elery of Elm Springs; two daughters, Louise Mills of Perryville and Lucille Frances Thomas of Springdale; a brother, Sidney Argus Griffith of Springdale; four sisters, Aften Artie Martin of Springdale, Merle Addie Cleaver of Longmont, Colo., Georgia Lee Royce and Joy Evaline Fanning, both of Springdale; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Friendship Cemetery in Springdale with the Rev. W.C. Blanton officiating. Arrangements are by Memorial Funeral Home in Springdale.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home
