John D. Rhew, 83, of Pleasant Plains died December 10, 2004, in a Searcy hospital.
Born July 25, 1921, at Pleasant Plains, he was the son of Delpie Lee and Emily Bell Vanwinkle Rhew. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, owned and operated Rhew's Building Supply in Newport for over 40 years and was a member of Independence Missionary Baptist Church in Pleasant Plains.
Survivors include his wife, Lurece Cross Rhew; two sons, Bobby Rhew of Pleasant Plains and Paul Rhew of Dixon, Mo.; two brothers, Max Rhew of Kokomo, Ind., and Algie Rhew of Lompoc, Calif.; two sisters, Maxine Clark of Kokomo and Ludean Foster of Bradford; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lester Rhew, Leslie Rhew and Woodrow Rhew; and two sisters, Lorene Alexander and Faye Pennington.
Burial will be in the Cross Cemetery at Denmark.
Pallbearers will be Michael Rhew, Ron Rhew, Joey Rhew, Terry Rhew, Jeff Tucker, Terry Bell and Monty Chadbourne.
