HIWASSE — Mark Wayne Scantlin, age 65, was called home by his Lord and Savior on Aug. 24, 2019, at his home in Hiwasse, Ark. He was born Aug. 31, 1953, in Bentonville to James Henry and Ella Scantlin.

Mark was a devoted Christian and served as a member of the Hiwasse Christian Church all his life, being baptized at age 12 at a tent rival in Springdale. As a young boy, he spent his time dancing in the yard with his sisters and riding on the propane truck with his Dad.

He coached football for many years in Gravette, coaching almost all his nephews throughout the years. He was a loving family man, who always put them first. In 1999, Mark took on an additional role in life, raising his four grandchildren. He spent his summers with them mowing lawns and many of the cemeteries in the area and in the fall, you'd find him cheering them on at the Benton County Fair or in the bleachers at his grandsons' football games.

Mark was preceded in death by his father, James Henry Scantlin and nephew Gary Scantlin.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jana Scantlin; mother Ella Scantlin of Hiwasse, Ark.; daughters Stephanie Miles of Pueblo, Colo., and Tanya Truitt of Springdale, Ark.; sisters Marcy Lumpkins of Benton, Ark., Nancy Osbourne of Rogers, Ark., Vivian Dobbs of Maumelle, Ark., Carol Sullivan of Bella Vista, Ark., and Linda Scantlin of Joplin, Mo.; brothers Ed Scantlin of Bella Vista, Ark., and John Scantlin of Lawton, Okla.; grandchildren Chris White of Hiwasse, Jeremy White of Bella Vista, Kimberlea Bumgardner of Gravette and Mechia Carroll of Gravette; 13 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.

Mark was also a care giver for his longtime friend Larry Gardner of Hiwasse, Ark. In true Scantlin form, he never met a stranger and had the biggest heart. He will be missed greatly.

Visitation will be Thursday, 5-7 p.m., Aug. 29. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, both at Bella Vista Funeral Home chapel, 2258 Forest Hills Blvd., Bella Vista, Ark. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Gravette. Online condolences may be made at www.funeralmation.com.
